Wordless Wednesday but With Words

A couple of things:

1. This is what is going on in my backyard right now. I found a $5 soccer ball at the chinese store today in town. The boys are so excited about it. It makes my heart swell with happiness.

2. Secondly, (is that redundant since I already wrote the #2?) this is my bath water..BEFORE I took a bath. Oh Africa and your dirty water issues.
3. In summary, I love this place - dirty water and all. (But I hate the internet.)

Whoopsadaisy.

Dear me.
How the time has flown by.

I will admit I've been spending pretty much all my free time at night playing the guitar. It has been a close friend of mine during the lonely nights. :) I don't have to come home and go to bed at 7:30 or 8:00. I can sit up for a few hours and play the same simple chords over and over again and annoy the Chirwas who live on my property. So, that's been great fun.

(^ the above paragraph is my excuse for not blogging in a while)

Mom and sis came over to the motherland for a visit. I really can't put into words what it was like to hug my mom and sis after such a long time. Just...glorious. It was really fun showing them around and explaining life over here. I really got a kick and still chuckle about a few of the things my mom said. I'm just really grateful that there is someone who will know the people and places I'm talking about when I get back to America.

Well, now that mom and Alison are gone, the next big event to look forward to is Maggie's wedding! Whhhaaattt! The big day is at the end of August.

I was talking to her about what what expected of a bridesmaid on the wedding day, and here are a few of the things plus just a list of my thoughts:
1. The bridesmaids and groomsmen will get together and create a simple dance for the entrance and exit of the ceremony.
2. The bridesmaids and groomsmen will take 2 or 3 DAYS to come up with a much more complicated dance routine for our entrance into the reception hall. (oh geez)
3. Apparently, the bridesmaids get their hair done a day or two ahead of the wedding. I explained that Mzungu hair doesn't really work that way...SO, We are going to have to go to the saloon (yes, that is what they call the salons here) and they will have to look at my hair and see if they will be able to style it as they aren't used to dealing with my type of hair.  Should be interesting.
4. note: I will be in heels for #1 and #2
5. I will be the only Mzungu in/possibly at this wedding aka a lot of pressure and eyes watching me.
6. I'm predicting word will spread around town that there will be a white person dancing in a wedding and crowds will swarm to her reception. This will be a good thing. At receptions here, you spend pretty much all 6-8 hours dancing and throwing money at the bride and groom.
7. Let's pray I don't fall while dancing.
8. I'm already feeling sorry for the poor guy who gets stuck with me in the dances.
9. Don't worry. I will have someone videoing this whole experience.

When I told other Malawians that I was in a wedding, most of them laugh and say they are coming because they need to see this with their own eyes.

I am SO excited about this!
Ahh...the life I lead. :)

Love you Mags! I'm feel so special for being allowed to spend this day with you! I can't wait!
